Lima, June 10, 2022.- Peru will begin the process of accession to the OECD with the Roadmap adopted on June 10, at the end of the ministerial council meeting of the of the organization (MCM 2022), in which a delegation led by Vice Foreign Minister Luis Enrique Chávez participated. , and integrated by the Vice Minister of Economy, Alex Contreras, and the Vice Minister of Foreign Trade, Ana Cecilia Gervasi. The roadmap recognizes the efforts made by Peru for more than a decade to incorporate OECD standards into its public policies, as well as its growing participation in the work of various instances of the organization. It also details the regulatory instruments that our country must incorporate for its admission to the OECD.
It should be remembered that on January 27, President Pedro Castillo informed the General Secretary of the OECD of Peru’s acceptance of the Council’s formal invitation to start talks with a view to joining the Organization, which currently comprises 38 States and whose mission is promote and design public policies that favor the prosperity, equality, opportunities and well-being of all people.
The process of accession to the OECD, as the President of the Republic has pointed out, constitutes a challenge that will require the commitment of all the sectors and public entities involved, including a permanent dialogue between the Powers of the State, civil society, trade unions, business associations and academia, in order to improve the quality of public policies for the well-being of the population.
In this new stage, our country will work more closely with the OECD to incorporate the standards, norms and rules agreed upon in the Organization, with special emphasis on closing social gaps in education, health, work, preserving the environment, fighting corruption, improving public governance, promote economic development, investment and trade in a sustainable manner, as well as the institutional strengthening of the State, among others.
Likewise, during MCM 2022, the Peruvian delegation participated in the debates on issues such as preparation, prevention and response to pandemics; trade and sustainability; the green transition for future generations.
