Cajamarca, August 24, 2018.- The OECD National Contact Point in Peru, located in ProInversión, gathered different private enterprises in the city of Cajamarca to present good practices of responsible mining developed in Peru by companies from countries member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
During the event named “Responsible Mining and Guidelines for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Enterprises”, the Guidelines of the Responsible Business Conduct recommended by the OECD were disseminated through the OECD Guidelines for the enterprises related to the corporate sector role to reinforce the favorable climate of investments in Peru.
The event was organized with the support of Cajamarca Chamber of Commerce, Cajamarca Regional Government, and the Embassy of Canada in Peru.
The Director of ProInversión’s Investor Services Division, Cesar Martin Peñaranda, representing the National Contact Point, pointed out that to preserve and reinforce the favorable environment for investments in Peru, it is important to promote the implementation of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises considering that they may create a mutual trust basis between the enterprises and the locations where the activities are developed by leading the reinforcement of the investment climate and enhancing the contribution of multinational enterprises to the sustainable development.
Likewise, he emphasized the importance of revealing the successful experiences of OECD member countries towards the promotion of the responsible business conduct. For this event, Mr. Felix Jimenez, the Commercial Advisor for the Extractive Sector and Business Social Responsibility of the Embassy of Canada in Peru, made a presentation of the Canadian experience on the promotion of the responsible business conduct and its relationship with the OECD standards.
In the context of good practices developed by enterprises of the OECD countries, the event had the participation of Benito Lucero, Responsible of Community Relations of the company Cañariaco Copper Peru, who showed the study case: Cañariaco-Lambayeque Project.
PERU HEADING TO THE OECD
The National Contact Point located in ProInversión, disseminates the OECD Guidelines as part of the commitment assumed by Peru in 2008, after joining the OECD Declaration on International Investment and Multinational Enterprises. Within the framework of this joining, it was approved that the National Contact Point will be located in ProInversión was assigned as a National Contact Point since 2009 to implement and disseminate these OECD Guidelines in our country; at the same time Peru participates in the Country Programme with the OECD.
In this context, ProInversión looks to strengthen the participation of Peru in the work groups of the OECD Investments Committee and the National Contact Point within the Global Network of the OECD National Contact Points to attract responsible investments
Currently, the OECD is composed of 37 member countries within there are the biggest and most developed economies in the world. In addition, it is accompanied – as observers – a select group of 12 emerging countries where Peru stands out.
